Westchester Torah Academy marked Lag B’Omer with a joyful day and a half of activities that brought together Torah learning, teamwork and school spirit.
For students in grades 1—8, what began as a seemingly routine assembly quickly turned into an exciting surprise—Color War had broken out! Students were divided into two teams, each representing the school’s colors and a key Torah figure connected to Lag B’Omer: Team Yellow—Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, and Team Blue—Rabbi Akiva.
Over the course of Color War, students competed in a variety of challenges—from energetic games like dodgeball, knockout and capture the flag to Torah trivia, Dvar Torah presentations and creative projects including banners, cheers and songs. Points were earned not only through competition, but also for sportsmanship, participation and middot. Just before the winner was announced, the entire school gathered in unity, blue and yellow together, to sing Acheinu Kol Beit Yisrael together. In the end, Team Yellow emerged victorious, but the real win was the ruach and unity shared by all.
Meanwhile, WTA’s Early Childhood students, spanning from 8 weeks through kindergarten, celebrated with their own magical Lag B’Omer festivities. They gathered outdoors for a kid-safe mini bonfire, sang and danced to festive songs from WTA’s La B’Omer Spotify Playlist and learned about the warmth of community—V’Ahavta L’Reyecha Kamocha. The highlight? S’mores! Sticky hands and smiling faces were everywhere as children embraced the sweetness of the day.
From the youngest learners to the middle school leaders, Lag B’Omer at WTA was a vibrant celebration of joy, tradition and connection—a day the students won’t soon forget.
