This week, Yavneh students from Ganon through eighth grade participated in Hour of Code. Hour of Code is a global initiative that introduces students to computer science and technology in an exciting and engaging way. This year, Yavneh Academy partnered with code.org and was one of over 60,000 schools across the country and the world to host this event. By the end of the week, 6,275 hours of coding were completed at Yavneh.
Ganon and Gan students were introduced to coding through our new friend the Yavneh Redbot! In order to help the Yavneh Redbot make breakfast, step by step instructions had to be broken down and given by the students until the robot understood how to make a sandwich. The early childhood students then learned about Bee-bots and the language used to program these small robots. The challenge the students were given was to figure out how to program the Bee-bot to go from “home” to “Yavneh Academy” on the floor map. It was amazing!
Students in grades one through eight participated in Hour of Code with their individual grade. Using laptops, students had the opportunity to code through different activities. Some activities included Code Monkey Jr., Make a Flappy Bird Game, Code with Anna and Elsa, and Long Live Wakanda. Each Hour of Code session concluded with a coded dance party! Hour of Code gave students of all ages the opportunity to learn about coding and to start their own personal coding adventures.
