Our school community came together to meaningfully commemorate Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror, through learning, reflection and heartfelt tribute.
Students in Grades 1 and 2 had the unique opportunity to learn about the significance of Yom HaZikaron from someone close to home. Yehuda Marcus, father of Ohr and Yahel, shared his personal experiences serving in the Israeli army. His visit offered young students a tangible connection to the people who protect and serve the State of Israel.
Meanwhile, seventh grade students took on the responsibility of leading two moving tekasim (ceremonies). The first, an evening program for the parent body, and the second, a daytime assembly for students in Grades 5 and up, were both profoundly impactful. Through a thoughtful blend of song, video, art and personal narrative, the students highlighted the lives and legacies of four specific Israeli heroes. Their presentations emphasized not only remembrance and honor but also the enduring power of resilience and the journey from grief to hope.
He’Atid extends a heartfelt thank you to Morah Nechama and Moreh Kfir for their visionary leadership of this project, and to Moreh Oz, Morah Dvora and Morah Stav for their essential support in bringing these tributes to life.
