Israel Portnoy, singer-songwriter behind the forthcoming album, “Poetry in Prayer,” has released “YIZKOR / Let Us Remember,” a deeply emotional and spiritual song in honor of Yom Hazikaron.

Written after a transformative experience at Har Herzl exactly 10 years ago, the song pays tribute to Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror. Though the track remained unreleased for years, Portnoy felt now—after the tragic events of Oct. 7 and with hostages still in captivity—was the time to share it.

The song captures the sorrow and strength of national grief and unity. While anchored in Yom Hazikaron, its message extends beyond, resonating with anyone who has experienced loss and the universal need to remember.

“This song was written from deep respect for those who gave everything,” Portnoy said. “The pain we’re experiencing as a nation is indescribable, but we’re unstoppable when we pray and reflect together.

“You can’t truly celebrate Independence without honoring the sacrifice behind it. Yom Hazikaron flows directly into Yom Ha’Atzmaut—a powerful reminder of the cost of our freedom.”

The song is dedicated to all who have paid the ultimate price for the Jewish people, especially Yona Brief, z”l, whose encounters with Portnoy left a lasting impact.

“YIZKOR / Let Us Remember” is the fifth release from “Poetry in Prayer,” a collection exploring faith, spirituality and remembrance.
