35th Gala Wedding Celebration Of Religious Freedom

(Courtesy of Bris Avrohom) On Sunday, September 18, Bris Avrohom will celebrate its 35th gala wedding for Jews from the former Soviet Union who did not have the ability to have a chuppah in Russia.

The annual wedding event was established by Milton and Shirley Gralla, ob”m. From its initiation until today, 945 couples have been married according to Jewish law.

Rabbi Mordechai and Shterney Kanelsky meet with the couples prior to the special day to explain the significance of a Jewish chuppah and all the rituals relating to it.

At the Gala Wedding, each couple will have their own chuppah, their personal rabbi, two kosher witnesses, a designated set of escorts and four pole-holders. Following the chuppahs, they will go to the grand ballroom of the Sheraton Parsippany for a lavish dinner with music and dancing. They will also receive special gifts from Bris Avrohom as they begin their new Jewish life.

The excitement and enthusiasm are in high gear as Bris Avrohom and the couples prepare for the grand event. The couples this year come from various parts of New Jersey, Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Florida, all committed to one ideal of having a kosher chuppah to continue the golden chain from our forefathers, as is said under the chuppah, “k’das Moshe v’Yisroel.”
