This year, the seventh and eighth grade girls of Bruriah junior high participated in a Law Adventure program, run by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation. This contest, which is the junior high equivalent of Mock Trial, requires students to learn about the court system, examine different types of court cases and construct a case based on topics chosen by the NJ State Bar Foundation. The students worked on their cases for months, and each grade submitted a case to be judged within their grade division.

After months of waiting, the seventh graders found out that their case had been chosen out of 137 submissions to receive an honorable mention. The girls were thrilled, and then had to get right back to work, as all winning cases are acted out by the students who wrote them, in front of a large audience of students and legal professionals.

On Wednesday, May 20, the sixth through eighth grade girls traveled to the NJ State Bar Foundation in New Brunswick, to watch some winning cases perform, including the Bruriah seventh grade. The girls acted out their case; four students played the roles of lawyers, and four girls playing the roles of various witnesses in the case. A federal judge presided over the case, and the audience members served as the jury.

At the end of the program, each student of the seventh grade received a personalized certificate, and the school was awarded with a beautiful plaque as well. This program enabled the students to become more familiar with the legal world, showcase their acting abilities and make a true Kiddush Hashem within this statewide competition.
