Teaneck’s Avram Mlotek to Receive YCT Ordination

New York, NY–On Sunday, June 14, Avram Mlotek will be ordained as a rabbi in a semicha (ordination) ceremony by Yeshivat Chovevei Torah Rabbinical School. The ceremony will be held at the Eldridge Street Synagogue in Manhattan at 3 p.m. Avram is the son of Zalmen and Debra Mlotek of Teaneck. The Mloteks are members of the Carlebach Shul of Teaneck and the Jewish Center of Teaneck.

Avram Mlotek graduated Cum Laude from Brandeis University with a degree in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies. His writings have appeared in the Jewish Daily Forward, Tablet, Haaretz, the Jerusalem Post, the Jewish Week, and the Huffington Post. In 2012, the New York Jewish Week named him a “leading innovator in Jewish life today” as part of their “36 Under 36” list. Avram’s work in Yiddish culture has taken him to China, Ethiopia, Israel, Sweden and Australia, where he led High Holiday services in Melbourne. He has held internships at the Carlebach Shul and the Educational Alliance, and he currently serves as Rabbinic Intern at the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale and at Hunter College Hillel. Avram is a cofounder of Base Hillel, a new initiative in Jewish engagement, and through this endeavor, he will be serving Jewish young adults as Rabbi in downtown Manhattan. Avram is married to Yael Kornfeld, a geriatric social worker, and is the proud tati of their delightful daughter Revaya.
