Several Yeshivat Noam fifth grade students were among the approximately 120,000 students worldwide to participate in the Math Olympiad program. Since 1979, the Math Olympiad has provided challenging, thought-provoking problems that stretch the abilities of students in grades 4 – 8, strengthening their foundation for both assessment tests and more advanced studies. Member schools are located in 49 states, 13 American territories and 27 foreign countries. Students participated in a series of five monthly contests of five problems each, from November to March, and weekly practice sessions. Students were taught how to solve unusual and difficult problems and to think creatively. Yeshivat Noam students have responded to the challenge with eagerness and enthusiasm.
At the end of the year, students were recognized with certificates and awards for their participation. Yaakov Halstuch earned the prestigious Dr. George Lenchner Medallion, awarded for a perfect score of 25 points, as well as the Gold Pin, awarded to those in the top 2 percent. Harry Orlinsky earned the Silver Pin, with a score of 16/25. The Silver Pin is awarded to those in the top 20 percent. Yitzchak Hagler earned the Embroidered Patch, with a score of 13/25. The Embroidered Patch is awarded to those in the top 50 percent. The participation of all the students is highly commendable.
