Camp Mesorah takes much pride in its extensive basketball program for both boys and girls, led by director Jeremy Pressman. Pressman is the former captain of Yeshiva University Men’s Basketball Team (’10-’11) and a professional player for Hapoel FL Jerusalem (’12-’14).
The goal of the JV/Varsity instruction for girls at Camp Mesorah is to help campers strengthen their fundamental basketball skills—from ball handling to team play strategies—and is geared towards teaching campers teamwork that will help them succeed, both on and off the court. “We challenge campers to go outside of their comfort zone and learn new techniques and strategies in the game of basketball. The focus of the program is to build teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership and self-confidence,” remarked Nicole Poupko, head of the girl’s sports program.
The focus of the play is on giving the campers the experience of professional workouts. This is made possible with firsthand teaching from Mesorah’s Israeli pro basketball players Jonathan Bayaz from Nahariyah, who currently plays for Hapoel Haifa, and Zack Rosen, who plays for Maccabi Ashdod.
The intense basketball experience will continue at Camp Mesorah, after the summer session comes to a close, with the Zack Rosen Basketball Program. This incredible one-week program of top level basketball training features Rabbi Garry Beitler, Steve Gutlove, Yisrael Feld and Rabbi Jonathan Kessel.
