Fortune Magazine Honors Yeshiva University’s Graduate Cybersecurity Program

Curriculum ranked No. 2 in the country.

The online cybersecurity master’s degree program at the Katz School for Science and Health at Yeshiva University was ranked by Fortune magazine as the No. 2 cybersecurity graduate program in the country, putting Yeshiva in good company with prestigious schools such as UC Berkeley and Johns Hopkins University.

The honor comes as cybersecurity has emerged as one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

In the United States alone, about 715,000 open cybersecurity jobs have yet to be filled, according to market research company Emsi Burning Glass.

“Programs were ranked based on criteria that include the selectivity of students in GPA and years of experience as well as student-to-faculty ratios. But that’s just part of the story. For example, our faculty includes superstars like our program director Sivan Tehila, a former CISO of the Israeli Intelligence Research Division and a cyber analyst at Rafael; Dave Schwed, head of digital assets technology at BNYMellon; Tia Hopkins, field CTO and chief cyber-risk officer at eSentire; and Dr. Dimitrios Tzimas, head of cyber architecture at Paypal” said Dr. Paul Russo, dean of the Katz School. “Tech matters, too. Starting this fall, every student will get their hands on our new cloud-based Security Operations Center and Cyber Range featuring experiences in ransomware, endpoint detection and response, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Splunk live-fire exercises.”

Yeshiva’s cybersecurity curriculum includes real-world threat modeling like how to solve cybercrime and the essentials of combating threat actors such as hackers, members of organized crime, and nation-states that conduct espionage. Throughout the program’s 10 courses, students get hands-on experience with threat mitigation, detection and defense.

“We ask students to address everyday challenges so that they are ready to make an immediate impact in the field after graduation,” said Sivan Tehila, program director of Yeshiva’s cybersecurity master’s program. “With ransomware attacks and cyber threats on the rise, cybersecurity has become one the fastest-growing industries on the globe. Demand for qualified professionals is on rise, especially here in New York City—a global headquarters for cybersecurity.”

Students can participate in industry internships or volunteer to provide cybersecurity support for nonprofit organizations in NYC or wherever they live. When they graduate, they have access to jobs at the biggest global companies, such as Ernst and Young, Deloitte and Amazon, with a 95% six-month job placement rate at the Katz School.

“Each program on the Forbes list is fantastic, and many are friends. I just happen to think we have the right combination of tech and teaching talent to help students rise to the top in the job market,” said Russo.

Yeshiva Katz School cybersecurity students prepare for industry certifications, including Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) and the Certificate of Cloud Security Knowledge (CSSK).

Students also benefit from getting a top-ranked master’s degree at an affordable price. With total tuition fixed at $25,000, the Katz School is about half the price of the top-rated school in the Fortune rankings (UC Berkeley).
