(Courtesy of JCCOTP) The 2022 Leon Rubach Satellite Ride for the Living was a fun and meaningful morning, both commemorating the Holocaust and celebrating the revival of Jewish life in Poland by supporting the JCC Krakow. The day was extra meaningful as we remembered Leon Rubach, z”l, Holocaust survivor, on what would have been his 90th birthday.
Participation in a 75-minute cycling class was no easy task, but it was invigorating to see the commitment and strength of the community for this ride. The rockstar instructors, Tiffany and Adeena, kept everyone motivated until the very end and added meaning to the ride.
The ride took on additional meaning as over 150,000 Ukrainians have relocated to Krakow in search of safety and community. It is powerful to reflect on how Jews such as Leon were hidden in Krakow during the Holocaust, and now Krakow has become a safe haven for Ukrainians regardless of religion.
