Tomchei Shabbos of Middlesex County invites the community to a performance of the Moshav Band and Noah Solomon of Soulfarm on Motzei Shabbat, December 31 at Chabad of Rutgers University. As their only (official) fundraiser of the year, the concert promises to exceed all expectations as a fun night of “kosher” entertainment to end the secular year. Chabad is located at 170 College Avenue, New Brunswick, with parking across the street in the gym and student center lots. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the concert will begin at approximately 8:30 p.m.
After several years of holding incredible concerts with world-class musicians, Tomchei Shabbos continues to raise the bar of musical entertainment with top artists presented in venues with specialized and distinctive audio visuals. The professional sound and light company that wowed the audience last year will be returning, and the featured artists have played music together for many years. The beautiful Chabad venue is the perfect place to feel close to the music while having room to dance and absorbing the atmosphere.
Yehuda Solomon with the Moshav Band (“Come Back,” the Nefesh B’Nefesh theme song) and Noah Solomon of Soulfarm look forward to an interactive concert that will get the entire audience involved. While readers may not be familiar with the bands themselves, people sing their songs all the time.
Growing up harmonizing zemirot on Shabbos or in the “family business” of music based in Moshav Mevo Modi’im, both bands have their roots in the Diaspora Yeshiva Band—founded by their father, Ben Zion Solomon. Having grown up next door to Reb Shlomo Carlebach, “we were raised on his music since we were babies,” Noah said. Their music can be described by many terms: bluegrass, Carlebach, rock, and even a new term—“Jewgrass.” Israeli music in English, traditional Jewish music, original compositions, songs everyone knows. Both bands have a presence on YouTube.
Residents of the area will have the additional opportunity to join with the Solomon brothers at Edison’s Congregation Ohr Torah on Shabbat Parshat Vayigash, December 30-31. Their beautiful and inspirational davening will be the perfect lead-in to the concert.
“Tomchei Shabbos is an amazing organization,” said Noah. “I’m glad to be part of this special event.”
Given the current economic climate, an increasing number of families are in financial distress. Tomchei Shabbos has become their lifeline, allowing them to face their challenges with dignity. Since 2009, dedicated volunteers have assembled large boxes of food that include chicken, fish, challah, grape juice, fruits and vegetables, and more. Under the cover of darkness, the food packages are discreetly delivered to homes in the Edison, Highland Park and East Brunswick Jewish communities.
