Congregation Shomrei Torah’s Torah Tuesday program took a July 9th trip to Yankee Stadium to watch the Yankees play the Athletics. Prior to leaving, the group had breakfast and Rabbi Andrew Markowitz gave a short class titled “Barry Bonds’ 70th home Run Ball—Who Does it Really Belong to?” The class was very interesting and enjoyed by all. A packed lunch and transportation to the park were provided.

The actual weather before and after the game was rainy, not very conducive for a day out at the stadium. But—perhaps in merit of the morning learning—the weather cleared before the game began and the temperature was just right.

Shomrei Torah’s name was displayed on the scoreboard; the word “Torah” was misspelled, but the attendees joked that there are at least two languages that spell the word “Torah” without the “h,” so no harm, no foul. The Yankees won the game 6-2 and the attendees enjoyed both the shiur and the chance to be at the ballgame with friends.
