The Park Med Spa: The Ultimate Skincare Destination

It has been just three years since aesthetician Marina Shepelevsky and her husband, Dr. Arthur Miller, opened up The Park Med Spa in Highland Park, but it has already taken the community by storm. Clients are flocking to the establishment, with its state-of-the-art equipment and the latest treatments, to get the ultimate care for their skin.

Marina came to Highland Park with over three decades of experience from her aesthetician career, which started in Russia and Israel then saw her opening her own business in Brooklyn. It was there that she saw her deeply devoted clientele grow rapidly, thanks to her successful acne treatments and highly customized facials. Arthur, a well-known physician who has been serving the Highland Park community for over 35 years, adds over 20 years of laser hair removal expertise to The Park MedSpa.

When the two skincare enthusiasts decided to open The Park Med Spa, they wanted to make sure their clients were being treated in a warm atmosphere with a boutique feel while indulging them in the most advanced skin treatments available today.

One of the more popular treatments is the Acne Laser/facial treatment. Even the most stubborn acne cases have been no match for The Park Med Spa’s unique approach. Combined with an acne facial that utilizes Marina’s highly specialized treatment for surface acne, it is then followed by a laser treatment that goes deeper to the dermis and restores the skin from beneath. According to Marina, this combination yields “incredible results” and is nothing short of spectacular. “We are happy to not only achieve those results but to help people feel and look their best.”

In addition to acne treatments, The Park Med Spa also offers a variety of laser and other modalities that treat several different types of skin conditions. For instance, laser, radio-frequency, micro-needling treatments and chemical peels can boost the body’s own collagen production and stimulate new skin growth to reduce scars and imperfections and aid in skin tightening. Marina feels it is a great long-term option. More-aggressive laser resurfacing is another highly effective way to treat acne scarring and imperfections. Lasers can also be used to treat hyperpigmentation, Rosacea, Melasma, redness and even unsightly veins. The Park Med Spa also has a highly effective laser for hair removal that is virtually pain-free.

The Park Med Spa also offers sculpting massages with your facials as an anti-aging technique in addition to Botox and fillers. Also available are hydrafacials, one of Marina’s favorites for skin rejuvenation.

Marina passionately believes that all great skin starts with prevention. “I’m a big fan of prevention, and the younger you start, the better off you’ll be,” she said. Prevention includes the right type of skincare, important at any age.

The first step in prevention is a great skincare routine, and every routine should start with a good cleanser, toner and moisturizer. A cleanser should not contain any harsh chemicals since they can harm the skin barrier and cause skin to become dry and thin. Toners are essential because they soften the skin and allow subsequent products to more easily penetrate.

For women in their 20s, it is essential to not only use a good cleanser, toner and moisturizer, but also to add in serums such as hyaluronic acid or vitamin C. Marina explains that Vitamin C formulated for the skin acts as a very potent skin antioxidant and an excellent preservative against sun damage.

Marina suggests that the 30s are the ideal time to begin a good anti-aging skincare regimen since the body’s collagen production begins to decline significantly and signs of aging can start to appear. Hydrafacials, she says, are a great way to treat skin at this stage, along with products that contain some type of acid. “When we treat the skin with acids, it removes the top layer of dead skin cells and can assist with more efficient cell turnover and skin rejuvenation.” Some products to look for are ones that contain lactic, glycolic and hyaluronic acid; even though lactic acid is very mild, it can still be extremely effective.

For women in their 40s, Marina recommends laser treatments that help boost collagen production. At home, she recommends adding a peel once a week. In the evening, she advises applying a retinol serum for collagen production, followed by a night cream. Because serums are far more concentrated than creams, she explains, they are dramatically more effective at treating aging skin.

At The Park Med Spa you can find all the right products for your skin. While you’re there, be sure to pick up some products from Marina’s own skincare line, Heaven Naturals, that feature her own unique proprietary blend of 75% natural ingredients. The Park Med Spa also sells GlyMed Plus products and Artderm, which contain retinol, and higher percentages of Vitamin C than what’s found in most other specialty skincare products. There is also a wide selection of mineral, tinted and clear sunscreens.. The one thing all those sunscreen products have in common is that they don’t have chemicals as their main ingredient. “I want to limit chemical use, which is why I created my own line called Heaven Naturals—I prefer a more natural prevention.”

Of course, Marina says that a healthy diet, exercise and rest at every age and stage are essential to any effective skincare regimen, and people should be sure to incorporate those things into their lifestyle. “A healthy lifestyle is all connected. It’s not only taking good care of your skin. It’s everything together.”
