If you’re looking for a place to exercise that offers a customized experience with dedicated trainers, Personal Performance Management (PPM) could be the place for you. Located in the heart of Teaneck on Cedar Lane, the private studio has one goal in mind: helping clients be their best selves.
No two people are the same, said owner and personal trainer Chris Holstrom, who develops routines that are uniquely catered to each client’s progress. Holstrom, who has a degree in community health education with a concentration in exercise and nutrition, has been involved in fitness since he was 14, and completed his first bodybuilding competition at age 20.
“My passion is to help people be the best they can possibly be, in and out of the gym.” With his versatile background, Holstrom is expert in weight loss, motor control, combat sports, muscle gain and more.
PPM trainers work with all ages and fitness levels. Holstrom can’t say enough about the physiological and mental health benefits one gains from the gym. The goal is to help clients live a healthier, more confident life. Exercise builds confidence, he said, and added that you’re never too young or too old to improve your self-esteem.
According to Nevaeh Rivera, executive project and marketing manager, it’s the culture at PPM that sets it apart from other fitness studios. There’s an intimate feeling that you don’t get at larger facilities, she said. “At PPM, trainers truly get to know the people they work with and aim for 110% success.”
Teaneck’s Elana Lieber is a trainer who credits PPM for what she considers a life transformation. “While I am a trainer at PPM, I am also still a client,” she said. “I will never stop working on myself. Working with people, seeing them have amazing results, is inspiring. The common thread among my clients is that once you make the commitment and have a trainer to motivate you, you start feeling good, automatically eating healthier and living a healthier lifestyle.” Lieber also said that as an Orthodox person she finds the environment at PPM very comfortable and welcoming.
Amina Benser is a client of Lieber’s, who said she makes exercising fun. “Elana provides the accountability aspect in a personalized way that makes you stick with your exercise routine. The environment is very friendly and intimate, and I appreciate the flexibility in scheduling sessions.” Benser also noted that her trainer will reach out to her in advance of her session to discuss which areas she wants to target and will then design a workout accordingly.
In addition to full body workouts, at PPM there is a strong focus on recovery and nutrition. “Recovery is an equally essential component of an exercise program because it gives the body time to repair, rebuild and strengthen itself between workouts,” said Holstrom. There is a dedicated space at the studio where clients have access to different machines that help stretch muscles before or after workouts. On staff are nutritional specialists who are available to work with clients to make sure they are eating foods that fuel their bodies. With the right combination of diet and exercise, most clients see results quickly.
