As a culmination of the second-grade unit study on plants and to enhance their Project-Based-Learning unit: From Seed to Plant, He’Atid second graders took a field trip to the Tenafly Nature Center. Students had the opportunity to learn about seed dispersal through engaging hands-on lessons. They also learned to identify and explain the function of different plant parts. They discovered why plants put energy into producing flowers and seeds, and explored the reasons plants send seeds on a long journey, as well as the different mechanisms, such as hitchhiking and parachuting, seeds use to travel. They went on a seed hunt and tracked which seeds they could find. Perhaps the best part was the mini safari the children took to learn about animal habitats. Many students were brave enough to pet a slithering snake!
