Raising the Roof at CDG

For Division Day last week, each of the five divisions was vying to prove its supremacy as the leaders of ruach and fun. It was a day of intense cheering, sports and various other divisional activities. The climax was presentations by the staff and division heads to determine which division would win bragging rights, which included songs, skits, dance challenge, and other staff and camper competitions.

Traditionally, the junior division hasn’t won division day. But this year, behind the leadership of Nesanel Ringelheim and the production of an adorable and exciting music video, the juniors carried the day. They were awarded with a gala barbecue lunch to go along with their bragging rights. If you haven’t seen the music video, make sure you check it out on CDG’s Instagram page.

The camp also enjoyed the debut presentation of the “Chef Yo” video, a hysterical musical tribute to its incredible chef, Yosef Oldak, and his delicious food. The song is a remake of Cotton Eyed Joe with a unique twist.

The first grand play of the summer, presented by night activity director Rabbi Mayer Erps, was “off the charts.” Campers laughed as they watched many of the administrators superbly acting ridiculous roles. They also learned an invaluable lesson about cherishing mitzvot.

But the highlight of the week was the trip to Aquatopia, open exclusively to Camp Dora Golding for an evening. Everyone had an amazing time going on rides and slides, getting drenched and splashed in the wave pool, hot tub and lazy river.

Malchus Supreme was also back on the road again, this time to the Midwest. They began their four-day excursion by driving through the night to Sandusky, Ohio. Their first stop was Cedar Point, dubbed the “roller coaster capital of the world.” The following day was spent in Cleveland where they enjoyed Whirlyball. That was followed by hiking at Euclid Creek, part of the Cuyahoga National Park of Ohio. There they enjoyed hiking through water, jumping down waterfalls, and taking in the beauty of the canyons while they trekked through them. After a barbecue they capped off the night at a Cleveland Guardians game.

Then they turned north and spent day three at Niagara Falls. They had an awesome time on the Cave of the Winds tour, and a whirlpool jet boat ride. Following a delicious dinner at their hotel and swimming, they headed back to Niagara Falls for a fireworks show.

The final day began with the Maid of the Mist boat ride under Niagara. From there they headed back through upstate New York for some fun and competitive intercamp sports in Camp Shoresh.
