Almoslino, Colton Lead Women’s Volleyball Opening Win

NEW YORK—The Yeshiva University women’s volleyball team began their 2015 season with a four-set victory at the City College of New York on Tuesday night at the Nat Holman Gymnasium, prevailing 15-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-15. It was the first time the Yeshiva women’s volleyball program had opened their season with a win since 2012.

The Maccabees of Yeshiva (1-0) were led by junior Marissa Almoslino (eight kills,.583 hitting percentage) and junior Gavriela Colton (ten kills, four service aces). The Beavers of CCNY (0-1) were paced by sophomore Angela Ubanwa (11 kills.)

After dropping the first set to the host Beavers, head coach Joseph Agrest gathered his players and made adjustments, putting the Maccabees in position to sweep the next three brackets. The decisive point came in the second set with Yeshiva trailing 13-12. Almoslino held serve as the visitors reeled off seven straight points, to take a commanding advantage that held up not only in the set but the rest of the match as well.

Yeshiva senior, setter Emily Rohan, led the team with 12 digs while collecting five set assists and five kills. Sophomore libero Dalia Sieger was on target with four service aces, matching Almoslino for the team lead.
