Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

This week, Ben Porat Yosef commemorated 9/11. Dressed in red, white and blue, the students proudly showed their patriotism. The elementary school focused on showing appreciation for first responders, who are always around to take care of us during emergencies. Although the students were not alive during 9/11, they understand how much first responders do for us all of the time. To show appreciation, the elementary school students lined the circle drive as they cheered on representatives from the Paramus Police Department and TVA. After singing the “Star Spangled Banner” and thanking these special community helpers, students presented them with beautiful reusable bags which they decorated themselves. Hopefully, each time they use these bags they will remember how much they are appreciated!

The middle school students also commemorated this important day in a meaningful program. September 11 was an event that changed many people’s lives. Even those who were not at the World Trade Center at the time, were impacted tremendously because of this event. In round robin sessions, the students explored the effects of 9/11 and also discussed how the pandemic was a major event that impacted their lives. Through this lens, they looked at how both of these tragedies changed schools, daily routines and transportation. The teachers and students thought about their roles as primary resources during these events. Although both 9/11 and the pandemic changed lives and hurt many people, the nation came together and showed what it truly meant to care for one another.
