This year, WTA hosted an amazing milestone event—the school’s first ever hachnasat sefer Torah! On Friday, October 14, Westchester Torah Academy filled Stratton Road with song as they welcomed a brand new sefer Torah to the school’s Aron HaKodesh. Students were privy to small group meetings with the sofer and had the opportunity to make a bracha as he finished one letter per grade level. They got to touch parchment, learn how the feather is dipped in the ink to write, how many letters are in the Torah and so much more. WTA even honored a seasoned teacher on the staff with the zechut to complete a letter, in honor of an important milestone birthday.
The new sefer Torah’s home in WTA’s middle school, and their middle school minyan is already using it regularly. Since coming back from the chagim, the middle school minyan learned about the tradition of changing the Torah’s dressing from its high holiday whites to its year round attire, and have been reading from it every Monday and Thursday.
