The Idea School continues to spread the legacy of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, z’l. Senior students Yehuda Zinberg and Nadiv Langer visited Kinneret Academy in Riverdale to teach a shiur based on Rabbi Sack’s book, “A Letter in the Scroll.” This shiur was part of the learning The Idea School students participated in last year in their creation of the Rabbi Sacks, z’l Memorial Project, which can now be found online. In the shiur at Kinneret, students engaged in a discussion, using sources from the book, about whether being Jewish is an obligation or a benefit. The shiur also asked students to reflect on the question, “What does being Jewish mean to you?” and then sharing those reflections with the class. This same question was asked of The Idea School students as part of the Rabbi Sacks project last year and their reflections, now etched in wood, form the door of the beit midrash at The Idea School. The interactive discussion that ensued with the Kinneret students was both inspiring and thoughtful.
