He’Atid Hurricanes Make Playoff History

With a gym packed full of fans, the boys Hurricanes soccer team faced off against the Solomon Schechter Sharks. He’Atid boys looked to make history by advancing for the very first time to the YMSSA semi-finals this past Thursday! The team started strong in the first quarter with eighth grader Gilad Adler leading the offense with a lefty goal straight into the bottom right corner. Eighth grader Adam Lehrer followed with a goal of his own to take a two goal lead. In the second quarter, Schechter got one back bringing the score to 2-1 He’Atid at halftime.

The Hurricanes took control of the game at the start of the second half. He’Atid continued to keep their feet on the pedal with Adler, Lehrer and seventh grader Matanel Berliner scoring another five goals to extend the lead. The stellar defense by Zach Friedman and Nathan Davidson along with help from brick-wall goalie Yishai Davidovics shut Schechter out the entire second half. The final score was 7-1.

The excitement of the night continued as the Hurricane girls basketball team faced off against RPRY in a playoff tie-breaker in order to secure a spot in the quarter finals. The Hurricane girls started off strong with sixth graders Nili Klapper and Miya Sandler leading the offense throughout the game. Fantastic blocking by Leah Barzideh, along with tight defense from Katie Weiss and Odeliah Gulko, helped secure the win for the girls. The game ended with a score of 19-9.

The Hurricanes and their fans enjoyed their historic first-ever playoff wins! Girls basketball coach Aaron Neufeld stated, “It is amazing to be a part of this historic night in Yeshivat He’Atid history. There are no easy victories in this league and I am so proud that the girls got off to a fast start and never looked back. After each game, I want to be able to say that the girls gave it their all, and tonight, I am pleased to say they did. Winning as a team is better than anything. It is great to share the success!”
