(yumacs.com) For the third time this season, Yeshiva University sophomore guard Zevi Samet was selected as the Skyline Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week. The Monsey native also earned Divisions II-III Honorable Mention accolades from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Senior forward Matan Zucker earned a spot on the Skyline Weekly Honor Roll. The announcements were made on Tuesday morning.
Samet and Zucker led Yeshiva to a 2-1 record in Skyline play last week.
In Yeshiva’s Skyline road win at SUNY Old Westbury last Thursday, Samet had a huge game with 34 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. In YU’s league win over Mount Saint Vincent last Monday, he had 16 points and three steals. Against St. Joseph’s University Long Island this past Saturday, Samet produced 18 points and seven rebounds.
Zucker had a monster game at Mount Saint Vincent, generating 29 points and 16 rebounds. He also dished out five assists and forced two steals. The Manalapan native had an impact in YU’s league road win over SUNY Old Westbury by scoring eight points, grabbing just as many rebounds, providing six assists and forcing a pair of steals. Zucker had 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals against St. Joseph’s University Long Island.
