LPS Sixth Graders Study Forensics

September 24, 2015, Tenafly. The sixth grade students of Lubavitch on the Palisades School began a most incredible educational journey today. As part of the school’s commitment to excellence in STEM, they have partnered with Liberty Science Center for a forensic science program. The program runs until December 22 and it involves eight workshop days.

Student mastery of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) has never been more important. Under the newest national standards, educators are required to instruct students in science and technology with active question-and-answer pedagogy and hands-on investigation. Liberty Science Center understands educators’ needs and offers a full portfolio of age-appropriate, curriculum-linked STEM programs suitable for preschoolers through technical school students, including pupils with special needs.

The introductory lesson was a web-based lesson in which students received instruction and participated in conversation with an educator from LSC. They were introduced to the idea of forensics and to how scientists and detectives use the scientific method in order to solve crimes. The program involves two more virtual sessions, visits by LSC educators to the school, and visits by the students to Liberty Science Center where they will do lab work and use their newly acquired skills to solve crimes.
