Ma’ayanot Students Offer Homework Help
Do you have a 1st-5th grader who would like homework help? Through its Pay-It-Forward program, the students of Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls are happy to provide free tutoring for 1st-5th graders! Sessions, which take place at Ma’ayanot (1650 Palisade Avenue, Teaneck), meet on Wednesdays from 4:40 p.m.-5:30 p.m.. The first session is Wednesday, Oct. 14. Simon Sinek to Speak at Chabad of Fort Lee
Simon Sinek is an author best known for popularizing the concept of “The Golden Circle,” and has authored two books, “Start With Why” and “Leaders Eat Last.” He has been described by TED as “a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership.”
The event will be held Thursday, October 29, at 7:30 p.m., at Chabad of Fort Lee. Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps Sponsors
Annual Blood Drive
The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps’ (TVAC) 21st annual blood drive on Monday, October 26, is being held with Community Blood Services in memory of three deceased TVAC members. The blood drive will honor former members Walt Pinches, a police captain who was an active member for more than 30 years; Rabbi Stanley Fisch, who also served as chaplain; and Bill Shambroom, a WWII Navy combat veteran who joined TVAC at age 64. “These TVAC members portrayed the qualities to which all our members should aspire. To keep their memories alive, we established this annual memorial blood drive 21 years ago to help save the lives of patients in our communities.”
The blood drive will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 855 Windsor Road. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of TVAC’s longtime supporters, Chopstix Kosher Take-Out and Butterflake Bakery.

Costco Hackensack Closes; To Reopen as Costco Business Center in 2016
The Costco store on River Street in Hackensack closed Tuesday, in conjunction with the simultaneous opening of its new store at Teterboro Landing, a much larger location. Close to the Teterboro Airport, Costco joins Walmart, which also recently opened at the shopping center.
The Teterboro location is approximately 20,000 feet larger than the Hackensack location, and includes a gas station. The Teterboro store will also host a photo lab, optical department, pharmacy and tire center.
Costco plans to reopen the River Street store in early 2016 as a Costco Business Center, with products tailored toward business owners.
Rav Tomer Ronen to Join Shaarei Orah for Scholar-in-Residence
Shaarei Orah, The Sephardic Synagogue of Teaneck, is pleased to present Rav Tomer Ronen, Rosh HaYeshiva of Ben Porat Yosef, as the Scholar-in-Residence for Shabbat Vayera on October 31, 2015. Rav Ronen’s first talk will be Shabbat morning at 10:30 a.m., and topic is “Not in my house: The education debate between Sarah, Avraham and Hagar.” There will also be a pre-arvit shi’ur at approximately 5:40 p.m. on “Tefillah: Where do we go from here?” The community is welcome to attend the talks. A special welcome to families, children and guests of Ben Porat Yosef.
Rav Tomer Ronen is the Rosh HaYeshiva of Ben Porat Yosef (BPY) Yeshiva in Paramus, NJ. A native of Rechovot, Israel, Rav Ronen initially came to the U.S. to join the faculty of SAR Academy in Riverdale, NY, as both a teacher and junior high school coordinator. He also served as the rabbi and chazan of the Sephardic Congregation Beit Aharon of Riverdale. Over the course of his tenure at BPY, Rav Ronen has overseen the exponential growth of BPY’s enrollment. Ben Porat Yosef features a klal Yisrael approach where Sephardic and Ashkenazic heritage and traditions are taught side by side, and is well known for its successful Hebrew language immersion program. Rav Ronen delivers dynamic energy, hands-on leadership style and a passion for authentic Hebrew language learning. His warmth and enthusiasm set the tone for the entire Ben Porat Yosef experience.

Pathmark Bergenfield Reopens as ACME Supermarket
As part of A&P’s bankruptcy last year, Pathmark’s superstore on 80 New Bridge Road in Bergenfield officially closed on October 11, and ACME Supermarket was set to reopen in its place on October 14. ACME purchased 71 stores as part of the A&P divestment, 12 of which were operating as Pathmark. The ACME store will have its departments generally organized in the same way, and kosher-conscious shoppers should not notice any significant changes in terms of kashruth products or supervision. “Both the bakery and butcher block will be under the supervision of the Kof-K, as well as a kosher deli,” said Danielle D’Elia, a corporate spokesman for ACME.
The staff will also remain in large part the same. “We intend to hire/make offers to substantially all of the store-level A&P employees at the stores we are acquiring and welcoming them to the ACME Markets team,” said D’Elia.
“As the stores transition to an ACME, our focus will be on providing our customers with fresh, full, friendly and clean stores. We realize every neighborhood is different—that’s why we’ll be focused on providing food solutions to the neighborhoods we serve,” she added.
