OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women’s volleyball team concluded their 2015 season on Sunday with two losses at the Skyline Conference Multi-Match hosted by the SUNY College of Old Westbury. The Maccabees (2-16 / 1-9 Skyline) fell to the host Panthers in a five set battle in the opener, 13-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-27, 7-15, before taking the defeat from the Bears of Saint Joseph’s College Brooklyn, 11-25, 16-25, 7-25.
Junior middle blocker Gavriela Colton (Teaneck, New Jersey / Ma’ayanot) combined for 18 kills over eight sets for Yeshiva, two blocks and seven digs. Senior setter Emily Rohan (Dallas, Texas / Yavneh Academy of Dallas) had one of her strongest performances of the season in the final two matches of her career as she tallied 17 kills on a team-best.185 hitting percentage with 33 digs. Junior middle blocker Marissa Almoslino (Seattle, Washington / Northwest Yeshiva) had 11 kills with two service aces.
The contest against Old Westbury was Yeshiva’s sole five-set match of the season against a Skyline opponent, as the Maccabees went up two sets to one. The critical stretch came in the fourth game, when they went up 23-20 with a chance to close out the Panthers. But, Old Westbury reeled off four straight points and ultimately prevailed in a nail-biter.
