RKYHS Students Create Sheimot Boxes

The new RKYHS freshman and sophomore Yesodot classes are in the process of creating something sustainable which will last far beyond their classes this year: Sheimot Boxes.

The kedusha (holiness) of the name of God is taken seriously in Judaism. We’re careful when we say His name, and we kiss sefarim and other objects that have God’s name in it. The importance of making God’s name great is found throughout Jewish liturgy and the Torah.

The Yesodot classes spent the week learning the halachot surrounding sheimot boxes and the week is culminating with their creation. By next week, these boxes will be seen all around RKYHS. Using their creativity and understanding of the significance of these boxes, students have created intricate, meaningful and beautiful designs.

RKYHS teachers and administrators are excited to see the students’ final projects and, more importantly, the Kedushat Hashem permeating RKYHS.
