SAR Academy students have been busy at work in SAR’s own matzah factory. First, students learned that the matzah had to be made in 18 minutes, so a timer was set and they got right to work! The students had the chance to roll out the dough with rolling pins and prepare the dough for baking in the special matzah oven. Next, they watched as the dough was carefully hung over a wooden pole and then transferred to the oven for baking and finally they saw the finished product—beautiful shmura matzah! This year over 1,000 SAR students baked matzah at the SAR Matzah Factory, including students from every class in the ELC, lower school and middle school, ranging from students in Nursery 2 through students in eighth grade, even some SAR High School students visited. In addition to the SAR students, 54 families, over 175 people in total, visited SAR to bake matzah. It has been wonderful to have all SAR students participate in the matzah baking program at SAR, and to allow many families and community members to bake matzot for their own Sedarim (the matzah baked by families outside of school hours is certified kosher for Pesach). Thank you to Rabbi Danny Senter and the Chof-K for running the program so smoothly and effectively, and ensuring the highest standards of kashrut.
