RYNJ Jaguars Hockey Team Starts the Season 4-0

On November 18, the RYNJ Jaguars visited Yavneh for a local hockey showdown. Everyone expected a close game and the fans were not disappointed. Both teams played strong defense throughout. Yavneh opened the scoring seven minutes into the first period with a goal from Zachary Levy. At the start of the third period, with Yavneh still holding the lead, the Jaguars came out strong and Shlomo Gellman scored the tying goal a minute and a half into the period on a nice pass from Ezra Seplowitz. The Jaguars had tremendous goaltending from Yoel Jacobson, who made one big save after another to keep them in the game. With just under three minutes left to go, Gellman scored the tiebreaking, game-winning goal, once again on a pass from Seplowitz; they completed a comeback win. After the game, the coaches credited Jacobson, whose stellar play made all the difference.

On November 24, the Jaguars hosted JEC. Both teams started the game with chances, but Andrew Cohen’s goaltending was strong in the first period. The Jaguars ended the 1st with a 1-0 lead thanks to the Gellman/E. Seplowitz line. JEC tied the game a few minutes into the second period, but then the Jaguars offense took over with goals from Akiva Kra, assisted by Ezra Kopstick, and two more from Gellman, again assisted by Seplowitz, to complete the hat-trick. In the 3rd, it was time for Gellman to repay Seplowitz; he helped set him up for the Jaguars’ fifth goal. JEC cut the lead to 5-2 but then Dovy Fuchs setup Ezra Becker with a beautiful pass. This completed the scoring with Jaguars winning 6-2. It was a great team effort from all of the Jaguar players.
