Professor Michael Avi Helfand of Pepperdine Law School will speak at Rinat Yisrael on Sunday, December 20, at 8 p.m. on the subject of “Religious Liberty in the Age of Same-Sex Marriage.”
Must shuls rent out their social halls for same-sex marriages? Do for-profit companies have the right to practice religion? How should the religious rights of Jewish institutions be protected? These questions and more will be discussed in this lecture and subsequent question-answer period.
Professor Michael Helfand is one of the leading experts in America on religious law and liberty. A prolific author and widely sought-after popular lecturer, his work focuses on the interaction of U.S. and Jewish law. He is an associate professor at Pepperdine Law School where he was twice voted Professor of the Year, associate director of the Glazer Institute for Jewish Studies, and a dayan and consultant for the Beth Din of America.
