Simple Steps for Transferring Gmail Mailbox to Outlook

Transferring files and emails from Gmail to outlook can be challenging, especially if you are doing it for the first time.     1. Export Emails from Gmail as MBOX Files

    Easier said than done, the first step is to download a copy of your mail MBOX file format using the standard Gmail. MBOX format will store all your messages as one database file, and its ability to store and send large folders of files saves the day. All you need to do is:

    1. Switch on to your Gmail account;
    2. Label all the emails you wish to download;
    3. Download your Gmail messages as Mailbox aka MBOX.

    Mailbox separates the email messages by headers in a standardized means, and you can open the file by using specific email programs. The first way is by the use of the Mozilla Thunderbird program available in Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Apple macOS. Launch Thunderbird and create an Email account. Run the program, then click on the Tools menu. Click Add-Ons and in the Local Folders, you will see the Tools menu. Select the Import MBOX file under the Import-Export Tools and set it to import into Thunderbird, and you are set.

    1. Run Transfer to the Outlook PST Format

    Personal Folders file (PST) stores local copies of contacts, notes, messages, appointments, and other items from your Exchange mailbox. You can make a backup copy of PST and use it to restore or move your Outlook data when transferring data from one computer to the other when you lose your data. Here is how to locate your PST file:

    1. Depending on the Windows, you should select Start, Find or Search and then select For Files or Folders or Computer, whichever options your version of Windows has.
    2. Search for PST and press Find Now, then locate your Outlook file
    3. Close the windows and start Outlook. Depending on the version you run, you are using, select the File tab, go to Account Settings in the Info category, select Account Settings again, and then select the Data Files tab. Another way is to select the File menu and then go to Data File Management for Outlook 2007.
    4. Go to the Add button, and select the PST file to add. Locate the file, select OK and save the file.
