Rapids Volleyball Wash Away Sting

Entering last Monday night’s game against the SAR Sting (12/21), the Ma’ayanot Rapids knew they were going to have to push themselves and really work hard on the court in order to come out with a win. Following a week of injuries and sick players for the team, the Rapids entered the gym ready to bring the energy, and fight for the win.

The first set was off to a rocky start with multiple service errors by the Rapids. After shaking off their nerves, however, Ma’ayanot made a strong comeback. Yet still, they lost the first set 21-17. Ready to start the second set with a renewed excitement and energy, the Rapids set up their starting lineup. They played a hard offense throughout the set with sophomore Sari Alexander serving six aces and two kills. The Rapids also played a strong defense, making sure to protect the floor. With the score tight late in the game, sophomore Adena Goldstein made a diving save for the ball, getting Ma’ayanot the point. The score was tied at twenty-one; both teams needed two points to win. Freshmen Shoshi Blech went to serve. In a nail-biting, overtime finish, Shoshi served the last two points which gave Ma’ayanot the win for the second set.

With the third set approaching as the tie breaker, the Rapids prepared to give it their all in order to come out with the win. They pushed to make a play on every ball and did a great job working as a team. The Rapids played aggressively, made great passes and dominated with their serves. Sophomores Sarah Berman and Adena Goldstein each contributed two aces and Adira Levine contributed four defensive digs. The energy and hard work came together in the last set, granting Ma’ayanot the 21-17 win and awarding them a victory for the night.
