WDS Commemorates Yom HaShoah

To mark the 78th commemoration of Yom HaShoah, the fifth through eighth grades at Westchester Day School participated in a special tekes (ceremony) and morning of learning about the Holocaust. The program commenced with a student-led memorial candle-lighting to pay tribute to the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust as well as the Jewish resistance that marked the period. The somber tone continued as the names of WDS family members who perished in the Holocaust were read aloud for all to hear and remember on this solemn day. After viewing the award-winning short film, “The Number on Great Grandpa’s Arm,” students had the opportunity to delve deeper into the story with Stacey Saiontz, whose grandfather is featured in the film.
