SAR HS Runs Peer Tutoring Leadership Program

Another successful year of the Peer Tutoring Leadership Program came to a close with a thank you ice cream party for the 98 peer tutors. The program, now completing its second year, has grown to include 216 SAR students, close to 30% of the school. The program trains tutors, collects weekly data about productivity, and provides study skills workshops. “I am on a mission to empower students to become leaders, create a community of kindness and a culture of giving back,” said Leah Bader, peer tutor coordinator. “It is a unique program that builds community and gives students the opportunity to support other students while also honing their skills and deepening their own understanding,” said Gloria Schneider, director of General Studies. Tutors  enjoyed their role as mentors. “Peer tutoring is an awesome way to review older material and be able to teach and inspire others. I love getting texts asking to meet because it means I have an opportunity to help out.” said Charlotte, a sophomore peer tutor. Tutees are also enjoying the benefits. In the words of Gaby, a junior tutee, “I usually get really stressed before tests especially in subjects I struggle in. Having a peer tutor helped me understand the material and made me feel super confident before tests.” The program is sponsored by the school which allows for peer tutoring to be accessible to all students.
