Wednesday morning, February 3 was an unusual morning at Ma’ayanot. Immediately after morning tefilah, five students, Chana Waintraub ‘16, Tamar Plotzker ‘17, Devorah Krischer ‘16, Talia Kupferman ‘16 and Batsheva Leah Weinstein ‘18, received haircuts on the Ma’ayanot stage in front of the entire student body. These weren’t ordinary haircuts, however, as the cut hair was being donated to Zichron Menachem, an Israeli non-profit that collects hair to make wigs for children stricken with cancer. The person giving the haircuts wasn’t ordinary either; it was Lillian Lee, founder of Do Wonders, a local non-profit that donates wigs to women with cancer who might not otherwise be able to afford one. The program concluded with a presentation by Mrs. Nancy Novack, a cancer survivor who benefited from a wig donation.
