The Jewish Link and The Humble Toast would like to recognize Kayla Kozlovsky as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The eighth grader at Yeshivat He’Atid and star first baseman for the TBO senior girls division Scorpions, Kayla drove in four runs this past Sunday, with a double and a triple. When asked about his first baseman, TBO coach Aaron Simon told The Jewish Link, “Kayla is a joy to coach. Not only is she an excellent player, she is a great teammate. Always smiling on the field, supporting her teammates—the joy she has for the game is infectious. In addition, she has that great ability—coachability. She always wants to get better, always wants more information, always asking how she can improve. Who could ask for more?” Rachel Obstfeld, Yeshivat He’atid assistant principal, added, “Kayla is a hardworking and sincere athlete who has beautiful midot on and off the court.”
Kayla, congrats on being recognized as this week’s Sportstar of the Week! Who is your role model and why?
My role model is my Bubby, because she is always so busy, but whenever anyone needs help she will help them.
What is your favorite sport?
My favorite sport is softball because I love hearing the sound of the ball hitting the bat and working together with my team.
What is your greatest sports accomplishment?
My greatest sports accomplishment was when I got a hit, an RBI and got someone out when I only played one inning of the game.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
My favorite athlete is Isaiah Hodgins of the New York Giants because at first, he didn’t get his chance to shine but he was patient, and waited and now he gets to show everyone how good he really is.
What is your earliest sports memory?
My earliest sports memory was drawing my number in the sand with my friend on my softball team in second grade.
What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?
My favorite thing to do when I’m not playing sports is to hang out with friends, watch TV shows or build Legos.
What is your favorite sports memory?
My favorite sports memory was when my softball team won a game by scoring 15-ish runs in the last inning after we were down.
What is your funniest sports memory?
My funniest, but not so funny, sports memory happened last week when I was playing first base, but I wasn’t paying attention—so I got hit in the face and still stayed in the game for the rest of the inning.
What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?
The best thing about being a Sportstar is that I get to encourage and work together with my teammates.
The Humble Toast Star of the week will receive a $25 gift card to The Humble Toast. Please send nominees for an upcoming The Humble Toast Jewish Link Stars of the Week to [email protected].
