Last week, the rich history and culture of Israel filled the halls of Naaleh. As part of Yom Hazikaron, the students paid tribute to a specific soldier during davening and watched “Soldier’s Last Letters,” along with a powerful video from Rabbi Dee, who lost his wife and daughters in a tragic terrorist attack during Pesach. They were also privileged to hear from Sarri Singer, founder and director of Strength to Strength, who shared her personal story of survival and commitment to helping others affected by terror. In preparation for her visit, the students raised money for her organization through an iced coffee sale.
The celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut was equally inspiring, with Naaleh students participating in a variety of interactive activities that brought Israel to life. The morning began with a beautiful Hallel led by the students, followed by rotations through different stations. At the shuk station, they wrote letters to soldiers, created a chesed project in memory of a victim of terror, decorated the Israeli flag and sipped on Israel-style smoothies. They also connected with Naaleh faculty members who had made aliyah through the Nefesh b’Nefesh station, tie-dyed T-shirts at the “Techelet Factory” station, and participated in a Tzahal army boot camp. The day ended with a scrumptious Yalla lunch and inspiring words from Mrs. Kobre, followed by an enthusiastic chagiga. All of this meaningful programming served to reinforce the Naaleh students’ commitment and connection to Eretz Yisroel.
