Tenafly Chabad Academy

On Yom Hazikaron, Tenafly Chabad Academy had the honor of hosting a special program. The American Friends of Nahariya and Yeshivat Hesder Nahariya came to school to commemorate the life and legacy of Sgt. Maor Moshe Jan Hy”d who was killed in a terror attack in Netanya. The students, and some of their parents, were shown a video about Maor, his life and his remarkable contributions to the community and his yeshiva, Yeshivat Hesder Nahariya. They also heard from one of Maor’s fellow soldiers.

Following the video, Maor’s mother, Evelyn, was introduced by Menahelet Rubinstein and spoke about her son and her journey after he was killed in a terror attack in 2005. She was moved by the beautiful photographs that her son had taken during his life, and decided to channel her emotions into creating art. Despite having not painted in years, she created 13 stunning paintings which were exhibited under the title “A Paintbrush of Longing.” Evelyn is selling these paintings to support the yeshiva in Nahariya and the community service that they provide.

The presentation was a heart-warming experience for the students, who not only witnessed the incredible artwork but also had the opportunity to ask Maor’s mother questions about her journey and her son’s life. The program served as a fitting tribute for Yom Hazikaron and left a lasting impact on all those present.
