More Than Just Teaneck Is Full: We Must Work Together to Find a Solution

Two weeks ago, in a letter to the editor, Meir Brodsky raised the issue he called “Teaneck Is Full” (June 1, 2023). While any idea is worth exploring, unfortunately all local areas have an inventory shortage. It’s not just Teaneck.

There are out of town communities highlighted by the OU that are more reasonably priced, but many people are tied to the New York area through family, employment and friends.

It’s possible that there is no solution and young families will just have to borrow from parents and spend more on their monthly mortgage than they’d like.

However, I feel there could be a solution, but only if these prospective homeowners work together. You as consumers and prospective homeowners are stronger when you unite. Perhaps you could work with a few realtors to find a property that can be developed and then engage a developer to work for you to develop the property to your specifications. Perhaps you could find an area that is not currently popular and start buying a number of homes where prices and taxes are not yet so expensive. Perhaps you could go to a builder who is currently trying to sell new homes and bring him 10 buyers at a discount. Perhaps…

A buyer I’m working with mentioned to me his dream of getting 10 similarly minded people to buy together. The first step to making a dream like that happen doesn’t require any investment, commitment or effort other than simply sending an email with the words “I’m in.”
