The Dor L’Dor group at Congregation Ahavath Torah, 240 Broad Ave. in Englewood, will present a lunch and learn program on Wednesday, July 19 at noon. Rabbi Daniel Goldberg, associate rabbi at Congregation Ahavath Torah, will speak about the “Three Weeks and Tisha B’Av.”
Following the lecture, the film “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” will be shown. During World War II, 8-year-old Bruno (Asa Butterfield) and his family leave Berlin to take up residence near the concentration camp where his father (David Thewlis) has just become commandant. Unhappy and lonely, he wanders out behind his house one day and finds Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), a Jewish boy of his age. Though the barbed-wire fence of the camp separates them, the boys begin a forbidden friendship, oblivious to the real nature of their surroundings. (Run time: 1 hr. 34 min).
Cost for the program is $20. Reservation deadline is July 14. For information, email [email protected] or call Eileen at (201) 921-0630.
