Make the State Fair Meadowlands a Must-Visit for Summer 2024

From June 22 to July 9, the State Fair Meadowlands again presented its exciting array of rides, games, food, shows and so much more for visitors of all ages to enjoy.
As an annual exhibition since 1986, the fair adds new elements and attractions each year. This year, I was lucky enough to attend with my brother and sister-in-law and enjoyed a night of summer fun in the Metlife Sports Complex parking lot.

The entertainment began as soon as we entered. We were immediately greeted by an adorable and thrilling pig race. Hundreds of fair-goers gathered to cheer on their favorite pig and built off the announcer’s energy, who proclaimed the lead pig at each moment. When the underdog pig ultimately won, attendees left with a feeling of exhilaration and anticipation of what else the fair had to offer as they continued on to the rest of the attractions.

We walked through various food stands that included ice cream, drinks and snacks, some of which were kosher. After purchasing some delicious and ice-cold lemonade, desperately needed on that hot summer evening, we stumbled upon the petting zoo. I was amazed by the various animals on display, like those adorable llamas, and watched as many attendees got to feed and pet their favorites.

As a natural next move for our family, we turned our attention to the skyride, which elevated guests in the air as they traveled to the other side of the park. We joined the already-long line, excitedly waiting our turn to fly over the fair and land in a new location. When we exited the ride, I realized it strategically ended in the more ride-heavy area, and we immediately scoped out a few to try out.

We headed for the swings, and enjoyed a fun ride as it spun guests around with entertaining music. The park included so many amazing coasters and rides, such as a mouse trap roller coaster and pirate ship, that we struggled to map out our next adventure. We finally decided to continue on to slide racing and the ferris wheel, which of course gave us a spectacular view of the entire park.

When I finally checked the time, I realized it was approaching the bike and motorcycle show, Cycle Circus Live, “the largest FMX freestyle entertainment show of its kind,” according to the fair’s advertising. This may have been my favorite part of the evening’s experiences, as the tricks and athleticism were exhilarating and unique. The show included jumps and tricks many feet in the air, and I was in utter disbelief each time a bike safely landed after its lengthy leap.

We ended our visit by walking around the games and watching the families, couples and friends smiling and laughing as they tried, and mostly failed, to win. Even merely scoping out the various booths available was cause for great entertainment, as the colorful lights gave my eyes plenty to take in.

For future attendees: I definitely recommend this fair and believe each guest can truly get their money’s worth if they plan their visit wisely. I would suggest visiting near sunset as experiencing the fair in both the daylight and at nightfall offers its own unique benefits. With the full kids section as well as exciting shows and games, the State Fair Meadowlands caters to all ages, provided the attendee is capable of the necessary walking. Be sure to take advantage of the many shows they have to offer by researching show times prior to your visit, as even stopping by for a few minutes adds a nice element to the experience. Also, attending the fair on July 3 or 4t is ideal, as the night will include a big fireworks display.

As a rare attraction in a central location of northern New Jersey, the State Fair Meadowlands is an obvious choice for a fun night for families. I mean, with the free parking, who can resist? Until next year, make a note-to-self to attend the State Fair Meadowlands in 2024.
