Color War on Shabbos? No way! Believe it or not, for the first time Camp Dora Golding had Color War on Shabbos. The zemiros on Shabbos in camp are always incredible. But during Color War Shabbos, they were off the charts!
On Motzei Shabbos, campers had their annual Max Miles BBQ to celebrate “max miles” of Torah learning: 415 campers and another 40 staff members! Color War included many unique activities including water tag, the first ever CDG sports combine, human Battleship to beat the heat, Torah Bowl and, of course, Apache Race, all-star games and more.
The Grand Sing closed the special evening with stunning banners presented to the camp, followed by heartfelt and heartwarming singing. Each team passionately sang their Hebrew song, theme song and alma-maters. Campers tearfully sang about their love for the camp that affords them an opportunity to be part of a special summer family.
Tisha B’Av is always an elevating and meaningful experience in camp. In their final full week, Ya’alozu Wilderness Program had their own Color War. Their unique competitions included building a fire that will burn the fastest, lashing the longest structure and an epic Apache race, that culminated with an amazing wild cook-off! The cook-off included such exotic dishes as garlic mustard seed, fresh fish caught in our lake, burdock chips and common spicebush.
Going into Shabbas Nachamu, everyone is excited for the most amazing part of camp yet!
