Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

There’s nothing like the forest feast in Camp Yagilu Wilderness! Self-reliance was the theme of the week in Yagilu. The campers built ovens out of mud, clay, sticks and rocks. Then they took fresh chickens that they had raised in camp and prepared them in the ovens. Some campers designed and prepared a roasting spit, using ropes and sticks over a bed of coals. The results were simply delicious!

The campers also built survival shelters in the forest. Working in pairs, the campers learned the principles of a survival shelter and then designed and built their own. Before going to sleep in it, they also learned about davening and keeping calm in survival situations.
