(Courtesy of YU) Yeshiva University High School for Girls (YUHSG) has appointed Bracha Rutner as head of school, effective July 1, 2022. Rutner had been the interim head of school until this appointment.
“I am elated to be named head of school for Yeshiva University High School for Girls,” said Rutner. “YUHSG has been my home for 12 years and I look forward to continuing my efforts and initiatives on behalf of our students. By working collaboratively with our students, parents and faculty, we can further strengthen the school’s position as an education leader and innovator. We are on the forefront of young women’s education, positively shaping the hearts and minds of our students.”
Rutner is dedicated to the school’s mission to provide students with both sophisticated Torah-based learning and critical academic skills and rich experiences that encourage a positive and growth-focused tenure in high school and beyond to ensure they are well prepared for success now and in the future. The school guides its students to become knowledgeable, halachically committed Jews and broadly educated, intellectually curious and caring members of society. Rutner is committed to honoring the traditions of excellence and values of YUHSG while leading the school into a new era of growth.
Rutner, with a deep background in Judaics and pedagogy, has been active in education for 18 years in a variety of roles, including Judaic studies faculty, department chair and assistant principal. She began as interim head of school at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, working with Yeshiva University and community leaders to enable in-person learning despite the numerous and ever-changing challenges. Rutner deftly overcame these obstacles while warmly greeting each student every day over the last two years.
Rutner aims to focus on several key areas, including school culture, academics, innovation and community outreach. She has strengthened the economic foundations of the school and continues to enhance its effective partnership with Yeshiva University by initiating new programs with Stern College. Seniors may get a jump on college by matriculating in credit-conferring college courses both at the school’s Holliswood campus and the Manhattan campus of Yeshiva University. Rutner has built strong relationships with students, parents, alumni and staff, and intends to continue to enhance the overall sense of community that helps YUHSG thrive.
