Ma’ayanot Rapids JV and Varsity Soccer Prevail

On Sunday, April 3, the Rapids varsity soccer team played Kushner at home. Freshman Esther Avidan had 4 goals in the first period, all assisted by sophomore, Dafna Levine. The passing game among the two offensive players continued. Dafna scored 5 goals in the second period, including a penalty kick. Kushner came back with 4 goals this period as well. Junior, defensive player Michal Mizrahi also had a beautiful shot in the second period. At halftime the score was 11-3.

The rest of the game continued, with the Rapids getting more shots on goal from juniors, Aleeza Berkowitz, Mashi Cohen and senior Abby Stiefel. The final score was 18-4. Excellent defensive play was displayed by junior Amanda Solomon, seniors Sophie Dubitsky and Chana Waintraub and goalie Denny Tammam.

On Tuesday night Ma’ayanot junior varsity soccer played against the top seeded Central. After many injuries on the team the Rapids came out in the first half aggressive, but not enough to overpower Central. Sophomore Malka Kaminetsky knocked one in during the first period. At halftime, the score was 2-1 Central. After halftime the Rapids came out with a fire lit under them. Freshman Berkowitz scored three more times in the third period with a fourth goal in the fourth quarter. Penina Krischer added to the board with a goal in the third period.

The intensity proved too much for Central and they did not come back with offensive plays. Excellent play by goalie Kate Weinberg and freshmen Naomi and Yael Bruk helped keep the Rapids afloat. The final score was 6-3 Ma’ayanot.
