After securing the five boroughs championship and then triumphing over tough competitors DRS and New Jersey champions TABC, SAR’s High School varsity team won the Yeshiva League College Bowl championship. SAR’s seniors have lost only one game in the past four years and have been undefeated for the past three years. These graduating students supported each other through every meet and practice, and they complemented each other perfectly, with vast knowledge in literally every field.
As team co-captain senior Yona Sperling-Milner of Riverdale, says, “There’s something very cool about being at a table with seven other Yeshiva League kids, and every single one of you is jumping on the buzzer to answer a question about the Mississippi River. College Bowl really celebrates information and knowledge in such a fun way, and I think that little community that forms every time we play a game is something you don’t see anywhere else.” Co-captain senior Betzalel Hochberg of Englewood added, “Regardless of whether we had won or lost, I’m just glad that after two years of Covid we were able to have a full season.”
Congratulations to all the participants, as well as faculty advisor Dr. Gillian Steinberg!
