With the end of the school year fast approaching, the Naaleh juniors’ thoughts are turning toward college applications with both excitement and trepidation. To give the students the tools and confidence they need, and to encourage them to harness summer as a valuable time to begin their preparations, Samantha Hauptman, college guidance, organized a two-day College Boot Camp. The students heard a presentation and had a Q&A with Sara Schwartz from the JLIC (Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus) about the new experiences of college life. They then broke into groups to review transcripts, complete resumes and learn about writing the personal narrative from Davida Amkraut. Amkraut shared that the students “are filled with such positivity and energy. Truly, a breath of fresh air.” The girls walked away with invaluable information that will ease their way into the complicated application process, and over the summer they will begin asking teachers for letters of recommendation and working on drafts of their personal narratives.
