On Yom HaShoah, a group of seniors visited the Broadway Pedestrian Plaza at Times Square to see the Hate Ends Now exhibit, featuring a full-size replica of a cattle car that transported Jews to their imprisonment and deaths during the Holocaust. The exhibit also included a multimedia display with two survivors’ stories. Open to the public, the presentation further examined the history of the Holocaust and the role of propaganda in antisemitism. The organization Hate Ends Now’s main mission with this interactive experience is to motivate individuals to get involved in preventing hate crimes and to maintain a sense of unity with each other. Seniors used the opportunity to reflect on their Jewish identities and to think about how they can actively stand up to bigotry and hatred in today’s times.
