Elite Jewish communal and academic professionals join cohort focused on perpetuating Rabbi Sacks’ philosophy and legacy.
(Courtesy of The Rabbi Sacks Legacy) The Rabbi Sacks Legacy has launched the Rabbi Sacks Scholars program, a high-level Jewish educational and leadership initiative for 27 hand-selected educators and academics who shared a personal connection with Rabbi Sacks, zt”l. The immersive program will enable participants to delve into Rabbi Sacks’ teachings and improve their professional skills to share his message to wider audiences. It will begin with a retreat in Jerusalem that will provide access to the highest level of Israel-based leaders and allow the cohort to connect with one another.
The program strives to embody the values and qualities of Rabbi Sacks, using them as a transformative lens for the personal and professional growth of participants.
Participants hail from the US, Israel, Australia, Canada, the UK and South Africa. The program will feature 10 monthly online seminars taught by global Jewish leaders in education, academia, politics and media, and a core component of mentorship provided to each scholar, partnering them with experts in leadership development, communication and new media.
The program will be guided by Rabbi Sacks’ philosophy that “leadership at its highest transforms those who exercise and those who are influenced by it” and that “the great leaders make people better, kinder, nobler than they otherwise would be.”
Each scholar will develop a project to bring Rabbi Sacks’ thought to new audiences and communities worldwide.
The inaugural group of scholars includes:
- Rabbi Joseph Beyda of Yeshivah of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School in Brooklyn
- Rabbi Dr. Dov Lerner of the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates of Queens and Yeshiva University’s Straus Center for Torah and Western Thought in New York
- Sarah Hass Robinson of Lincoln Square Synagogue and Yeshiva University Wurzweiler School of Social Work in New York
“Rabbi Sacks was a master communicator, distilling complex Jewish concepts into understandable insights for people of all ages and backgrounds. His timeless messages continue to inspire and guide communities of faith and society as a whole,” said Joanna Benarroch, chief executive of The Rabbi Sacks Legacy. “This program will continue his legacy by empowering his students to share his philosophy with future generations.”
