NEFESH International Presents Symposium on Sexuality

NEFESH International is very proud to present a truly groundbreaking event in our community. After much effort and preparation, this full-day Symposium on Sexuality will finally come to fruition on Sunday, June 5. NEFESH has arranged for a full array of outstanding professionals to present on many important topics related to sexuality.

The opening plenary will include Rabbi Avrohom Union, MA, of Los Angeles, Rabbinic Administrator of the Rabbinical Council of California, as well as dayan and menahel of its Beit Din. Rabbi Union will speak about “The Torah Perspective on Sexuality.” Joining him will be Rabbi Simcha Feuerman, LCSW, Senior Director of Operations at OHEL, private practitioner, and president of NEFESH, who will discuss “The Personal and Cultural Cognitive Mindset in the Treatment of Sexual Disorders.”

The program will then feature concurrent sessions with Dov Finkelstein, LCSW, a Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at the New York School of Medicine who also maintains a private practice working with couples, specializing in sex therapy and anxiety disorders. He will present on “Sexual Dysfunction and the Unconsummated Marriage.” Dovid Kohn, LCSW, is the founding director of a group-based private practice in Brooklyn and New City, NY, specializing in couples counseling, sexual compulsivity, addiction and complex trauma issues. He will speak about “Sexual Compulsivity and Addiction: A Relational Treatment Framework for Trauma Healing.”

The next set of concurrent sessions will feature Pamela Klein, LCSW, who has a private practice in Brooklyn and Queens, specializing in sex therapy and marital counseling; she will discuss “The Assessment and Treatment of Couples with Discrepancies in the Level of Desire.” Rachel Hercman, LCSW, will address “Menopausal and Sexual Dysfunction: Assessment, Treatment, and Clinical Considerations.”

The final plenary will include Nosson Solomon, PhD, a psychologist in private practice in Brooklyn, a past president of NEFESH International and a member of its executive board, who will present on “Sexual Development in Children and Adolescents”; Benzion Sorotzkin, PsyD, maintains a private practice in Brooklyn and will speak about “Treatment of Patients with Same- Sex Attraction”; Rabbi Avrohom Union, MA, will conclude the program with “A Torah Perspective on Challenges in Sexuality.”

This list of presenters and their topics makes it very clear that this symposium will be an extraordinary event that mental health professionals will not want to miss. The symposium will be held at the Young Israel of Great Neck, 236 Middle Neck Rd. in Great Neck, NY. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m, with the program running from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. There will be a one-hour break for lunch, and box lunches will be available for purchase online. Fees are $150 for NEFESH members, $185 for non members and $100 for student members. Group rates can be arranged by contacting [email protected]. Social workers can earn 7 CE credits.
